So I guess this is the new DeviantArt?

Posted by woadge - 3 days ago

Hello everyone! This is the first post for my new account on here. I was having a conversation with my good friend Havoc, and we were talking about how much we missed the casual atmosphere of old school Deviant Art, and how it sucked that most people left Deviant Art for the more professional ArtStation, rather than continuing on a more casual site. Then, we heard that NewGrounds really cleaned up it's act from the early days, and decided to give it a try. So, nice to meet all of you! Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about me, I want to make friends!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the warm welcome! :)

Would not call this DeviantArt.

Anyways, welcome!

Sorry friend, didn't mean to offend! I meant it more in that, the casual setting where people are free to post both stories and art without the stress of artstation, makes it kind of a direct upgrade from Deviant Art. I would never say this place is the same, it's far more friendly to artists.

@woadge Indeed! What would you like to know about here?

I guess my only real question so far is, how big of a difference does being scouted actually make? I got scouted within my first few posts, and so I kind of instantly got put in that upper bracket, rather than having any time to feel out the "undiscovered" section. What's the difference, if there is one?

What act?

Iirc, newgrounds used to be considered an internet cesspool of sorts with a lot of really not cool jokes becoming popular. But with the progression of peoples senses of humor and all that, the bad jokes fizzled

@woadge Well now you would have the chance to be front-paged and awarded for your work lol

This website IS OLDER THEN DEVENTART

@TinFoi @woadge I think most users view being scouted (on the Audio Portal or Art Portal) as a 'seal of quality'. Another scouted artist vouched for them and said "Their stuff is good."

And if it 'isn't', the artist who scouted them can lose their ability to scout others forever.

Deviant Art and Newgrounds diverge in a lot of ways, I don't use Deviant not because it's less casual, I don't use it because it's became really toxic over there and AI runs rampant. Newgrounds has some things in common with Deviant but without all the toxicity, AI (it's literally banned) and corporate stink.
I agree that it's way more fun over here! We're glad to have ya'! :D

As @SLUSHIE-SWEETHEART mentioned: AI is banned here. But we still have a constant flood of (presumably kids) who upload tracks completely generated by AI to the Audio Portal. (Like Buckleyh2O...)

If you ever wonder: "What happened to that "artist's" Audio Portal submissions...?" The answer is: "They got caught."

@woadge It's not as squeaky-clean as you expected, we still get the occasional edgy cartoon or user. And most the old stuff still exists (at least the ones that didn't use copyrighted music).

Otherwise, welcome to Newgrounds.
